Heartworm Prevention in Sedona, AZ

Heartworm Prevention

What is Heartworm
An infographic illustrating the life cycle of the parasitic heartworm (*Dirofilaria immitis*) in dogs. The cycle begins with a mosquito ingesting microfilariae from an infected dog, followed by the maturation of larvae within the mosquito. The mosquito then transmits the larvae to a new dog through a bite, where the larvae migrate to the heart to mature into adult worms over 6-8 months, eventually producing microfilariae that can be ingested by other mosquitoes.
A tabby cat and a German Shepherd dog play together, both lying on their backs in the grass with the cat pawing at the dog’s head.

Why Prevention is Important

Preventing heartworm is much easier and safer than treating it. Monthly prevention is simple and effective, while treatment for heartworm disease can be costly and hard on your pet. Even indoor pets are at risk, as mosquitos can easily enter your home.
